Mark S. Austenfeld, M.D.
Dr. Austenfeld received his medical degree from Kansas University in 1983. While in medical school, he was chosen for several awards given for academic achievement: the Mosby Book Award, the Czarlinsky Distinguished Clinical Service Award, and election to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society as a junior. He then completed his urologic training at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City in 1988.
Dr. Austenfeld was chosen to attend the Mayo Clinic for oncology fellowship finishing in 1989. He then accepted a position as Director of Urologic Oncology at Kansas University which he held until 1996. He now is associate clinical professor at KU and is in private practice at St Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.
Dr. Austenfeld has been certified by the American Board of Urology since 1991. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the Metropolitan Medical Society, Kansas City Urological Society, the Society of Urological Oncologists, and the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Austenfeld is president of the south central section of the American Urological Association.

James A. Bergant, M.D.
Dr. Bergant has been practicing in the field of urology since 1975. He received his undergraduate degree in 1965 from Kansas State College at Pittsburg, where he was elected to the National Honorary Biology Fraternity in 1964. He received his medical degree in 1969 from the University of Kansas Medical School and completed his internship at Bethany Hospital, Kansas City, Kansas, in 1970. His urology and general surgery residencies were completed at Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio, in 1975. He received his lithotripsy certification at Bowman Gray School of Medicine in 1986.
Dr. Bergant has been certified by the American Board of Urology since 1977. He moved to the Kansas City area from Durham, North Carolina, in 1993. He is a member of the American Urological Association, South Central Section of the American Urological Association, Kansas City Urological Society, American Medical Association, Kansas Medical Society, and the Wyandotte/Johnson County Medical Association. He is licensed to practice medicine in both Kansas and Missouri.

David Bock, M.D.
Dr. Bock has been practicing urology in Kansas City since completing his training at the Mayo Clinic in 1991. He has special interest and expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of benign prostatic enlargement, kidney stone disease, male and female urinary incontinence, and cancers of the urinary tract. Additionally, Dr. Bock has extensive experience in the field of endoscopic urologic surgery.
Dr. Bock is actively involved in a number of clinical studies in many areas of urology. He serves as principal investigator in the majority of these studies.
Dr. Bock is certified by the American Board of Urology and is licensed in both Missouri and Kansas. Robert L. Elkins, M.D.
Dr. Elkins has been practicing in the field of urology for more than 20 years. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Kansas in 1970 earning a B.A. He received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine and was elected into the national honor medical society, Alpha Omega Alpha, in 1973. He completed his surgery internship at St Luke's Hospital of Kansas City in 1975 and his surgery residency there in 1976. He then completed his urology residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center in 1979.
Dr. Elkins has been certified by the American Board of Urology since 1981. He is currently a member of the American Urological Association, the Metropolitan Medical Society, the American Association of Clinical Urologists, and the South Central Section of the American Urological Association. He is a past president and a member of the Kansas City Urological Society. Dr. Elkins is licensed to practice medicine in both Missouri and Kansas.

David F. Emmott, M.D.
Dr. Emmott has been practicing in the field of urology since 1984. He received his BA degree in 1975 at the University of Oklahoma and his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma Medical School in 1979. His residency in urology was done at the University of Kansas Medical Center from 1982 to 1984.
Dr. Emmott has been certified by the American Board of Urology since 1986. Licensed to practice medicine in both Kansas and Missouri, he pioneered the da Vinci™ Prostatectomy in the Kansas City area. He and Dr. Montgomery have successfully performed over 400 da Vinci™ Prostatectomies since December 2003. His experience with robotics is unsurpassed in this region. He is also a specialist in male infertility with interest in microsurgical vasectomy reversals.

Floyd J. Freiden, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Freiden has been practicing in the field of urology for more than 25 years. He earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa. He spent his postgraduate training in general surgery and urology at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
Dr. Freiden's clinical interests are in pediatric urology, endourology, percutaneous stone removal, and hand-assisted laparoscopic surgery.
Dr. Freiden has been certified by the American Board of Urology since 1979. He is licensed in both Missouri and Kansas. He is currently a member of the following professional organizations: the American Urological Association, the South Central Section of the American Urological Association, the Kansas City Urological Society, the Metropolitan Medical Society, the American Association of Clinical Urologists. Thomas B. Herrick, M.D.
Dr. Herrick has been in practice in Kansas City North since 1990. He is originally from the San Francisco Bay Area and moved to Springfield, Illinois, when he was in high school. He graduated from the University of Illinois at Champaign Urbana with a B.S. in biology in 1981. Dr. Herrick received his medical degree from Southern Illinois University in 1985. Dr. Herrick then spent two years in general surgery followed by three years of urology at the University of Missouri in Columbia, finishing in 1990.
Dr. Herrick has been certified by the American Board of Urology since 1992 and was recertified in 1999. He is a member of the American Urology Association, the South Central Section of the American Urological Association, the American Association of Clinical Urologists, the Kansas City Urological Society, the American Medical Association, and the Kansas City Metropolitan Medical Society. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is past president of the Clay-Platte County Medical Society. He is a former chairman of the department of surgery at North Kansas City Hospital, as well as past president of the North Kansas City Hospital Medical Staff.
Dr. Herrick is licensed to practice medicine in Missouri. He is on the medical staffs of North Kansas City Hospital, Liberty Hospital, and St. Luke's Hospital North.
Dr. Herrick's interests include general urology, female urology including the treatment of urinary incontinence and pelvic floor disorders and the new, emerging field of laparoscopy and minimally invasive surgery.

Daniel G. Holmes, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Holmes received his B.A. in biochemistry and graduated with honors from the University of Kansas. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Kansas Medical Center. While in medical school he was awarded the Chont, Lazlo and Esther scholarship as well as the Sharp, Elwood, and Mamie scholarship. He trained in general surgery at St. Luke's Hospital and completed his urology residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine where he was a Pfizer National Scholar. He has presented scientific research at the American Urological Association national meeting and has published in the Journal of Urology and Urology. He is a clinical assistant professor at the University of Missouri - Kansas City Medical School, Urology Section. Dr. Holmes has performed more than 200 da Vinci robot radical prostatectomy.
Dr. Holmes practices all aspects of urology including kidney stone disease, incontinence, prostate problems, and cancers. He trained under fellowship-qualified faculty and performs the latest minimally invasive surgical techniques, such as microwave for prostate, and outpatient procedures for incontinence. Additionally, he has a special interest in the medical and surgical treatment of female urinary incontinence. He is a partner in the Incontinence Institute of Kansas City, Inc. Full urodynamic evaluations are available for both male and female patients with voiding dysfunction.
Dr. Holmes is certified by the American Board of Urology, and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has lived in Kansas City for more than thirty years. He is a member of the American Urological Association, the South Central Section of the American Urological Association, the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, and the Kansas City Urological Society. He holds licenses to practice medicine in both Kansas and Missouri.

Michael A. Hughes, M.D.
Dr. Hughes earned his Bachelor's (1990) and Master's (1994) degrees from Duke University in Biomedical Engineering. He performed biomedical research at Duke and later at the University of Kansas, publishing original research in the areas of geriatrics, rehabilitation medicine, and biomedical engineering. He subsequently graduated from the University School of Medicine in 2000. His residency was completed at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD, in 2005, during which time he published original research in Oncology.
Upon completing residency, Dr. Hughes returned to Kansas City to join Therapeutic Radiologists, Inc. He began practicing at the Kansas City Urology Research and Cancer Center upon it's opening in March 2006. He also has a practice at Menorah Medical Center.

Gary Leifer, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Leifer has been in the private practice of urology for the past fifteen years. After completing his undergraduate studies at Stanford University, he obtained his medical degree at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He spent his two years of postgraduate training in general surgery at Barnes Hospital in St Louis and the University of Kansas. He then completed his urology residency at the University of Kansas.
Dr. Leifer has been certified by the American Board of Urology since 1986. He is a member of the American Urological Association, the American Association of Clinical Urologists, the South Central Section of the American Urological Association, and the Metropolitan Medical Society. He is a past president and current member of the Kansas City Urological Society. Dr. Leifer is licensed to practice medicine in both Kansas and Missouri. He has been president of Kansas City Urology Care since its inception in 1999.
Dr. Leifer has had a long-standing interest in diseases of the prostate. He was involved in several research projects at Johns Hopkins. He performed the first potency-sparing radical prostatectomy in Kansas City, a technique he brought from Dr. Walsh at Johns Hopkins. He has participated in many clinical studies as an investigator.

Scott A. Montgomery, M.D.
Dr. Montgomery has been practicing in the field of urology since 1995. He received his undergraduate degree in 1986 from the University of Missouri-Columbia and his medical degree in 1990 from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He trained in general surgery at St Luke's Hospital from 1990–92 and completed his urology residency at Kansas University School of Medicine in 1995. He has been certified by the American Board of Urology since 1997.
Dr. Montgomery enjoys all aspects of urology yet maintains a specific interest in minimally invasive techniques. He and Dr. Emmott performed the firsh daVinci prostatectomy in 2003 and continue to be leaders in robotics, laparoscopy and other minimally invasive techniques. These techniques allow for excellent outcomes with quicker recovery and less pain to the patient.

Jack D. Moore, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Moore received his M.D. and Ph.D. from the University of Missouri in 1970. He completed his urology residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
He is a clinical assistant professor at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Urology Section, and has been actively participating in the training of urology residents for the last 25 years.
Dr. Moore has been certified by the American Board of Urology since 1977 and is a member of the American Urological Association, the American Medical Association, the Metropolitan Medical Society and the Kansas City Urological Society.

Steven D. Nash, M.D.
Dr. Nash has been in the field of urology for the past ten years. He obtained his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1985. He completed his internship and residency training at the University of Kansas in 1990 in general surgery and urology. Dr. Nash is actively involved in many clinical studies.
Dr. Nash has a special interest in female urinary incontinence. Our office is one of six sites in the country performing a Capio pubovaginal wall sling, which is a procedure for treating stress incontinence. This procedure has advantages over others in that it can be done in 30 minutes and only requires an overnight stay in the hospital. It is performed by making a vaginal incision and does not require any abdominal incisions. The success rate for this surgery has been 90%. Our office is currently a training site for other physicians throughout the country.
Dr. Nash has been certified by the American Board of Urology since 1993. He is licensed in both Missouri and Kansas. He is currently a member of the American Urological Association, the South Central Section of the American Urological Association, the American Association of Clinical Urologists, the Metropolitan Medical Society, and he is currently President of the Kansas City Urological Society.

Gerald Park received his B.A. from Rice University and his M.D. from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He recently finished his urologic training at the University of Kansas Medical Center prior to joining Kansas City Urology Care. He has presented scientific research at the American Urological Association national meeting and has published in the Journal of Urology.

Brandon D. Pomeroy, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Pomeroy has been in private practice since 1998. He graduated with honors from Texas Christian University and received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He completed urologic training at the University of Nebraska School of Medicine. He then practiced in Hutchinson, Kansas, for three years before returning to his hometown of Kansas City.
Dr. Pomeroy treats all aspects of urology including prostate cancer, benign prostatic enlargement, and kidney stones. Additionally, he has a special interest in the medical and surgical treatment of female urinary incontinence. The Tension-Free Vaginal Tape Sling is a well-tolerated and effective outpatient procedure that he has been performing with a high degree of success. Full urodynamic evaluations are available for both male and female patients with voiding dysfunction.
Dr. Pomeroy was certified by the American Board of Urology in 2000. Susan D. Sweat, M.D.
Dr. Susan D. Sweat joined Kansas City Urology Care on January 1, 2004. She graduated from Baker University in 1990 and received her medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1994. She completed her urologic training at the Mayo Clinic in 2000. She was a staff physician in the Department of Urology at Mayo Clinic for three and a half years before moving back to Kansas City. She has authored and co-authored many articles and abstracts in the field of urology.
Dr. Sweat treats all aspects of urology including kidney stone disease, urologic cancers, benign prostate conditions and incontinence. She has been certified by the American Board of Urology since 1992. She is a member of the American Medical Association, American Urological Association, National Association For Continence and the Society of Women in Urology. Douglas N. Tietjen, M.D.
Dr. Tietjen has been practicing with KCUC since 1999. A Missouri native, Dr. Tietjen attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City receiving his undergraduate and Medical Degree through the university’s six year program. Dr. Tietjen then attended the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Medicine, receiving his training as a general surgery intern and then urology resident. During his six years at Mayo, Dr. Tietjen received training in all areas of urology including oncologic surgery, pediatric surgery, stone disease, infertility, and female pelvic floor repair. He spent one year performing research involving the human androgen receptor and authored numerous papers and academic publications.
As a board-certified urologist, Dr. Tietjen practices in our Lee’s Summit and Overland Park offices. He continues to treat all facets of urologic disease. He has also partnered with several area gynecologists and physical therapists to provide comprehensive surgical and medical treatment for female pelvic floor disorders including urinary incontinence and prolapse.
Dr. Tietjen is licensed in both Missouri and Kansas, is a member of the American Urologic Association, and diplomat of the American Board of Urology.

Allan R. Weide, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Weide has practiced urology in Kansas City for 32 years. He received his medical degree from the University of Kansas Medical School in 1968. After serving a rotating internship at Bethany Hospital, Kansas City, Kansas, for 1 year, he served as a Captain in the United States Air Force as a General Medical Officer for 2 years. He returned to Kansas City and completed a surgery and urology residency at the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Medicine in 1975 and began practicing urology in North Kansas City that year.
Dr. Weide's special interest is prostate cancer and he introduced brachytherapy with Palladium 103 under ultrasound guidance to this area 13 years ago and is pursuing a 15 year study on this modality of treating localized prostate cancer.
Dr. Weide has been certified by the American Board of Urology since 1977. He is currently a member of the following professional organizations: The American Urological Association, the South Central Section of the American urological Association, the Kansas City Urological society, the American Association of Clinical Urologists, the Missouri State Medical Association, the Clay/Platte County Medical Society, the Metropolitan Medical Society, and the American Medical Association.
