Gary Leifer M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Leifer has been in the private practice of urology for the past fifteen years. After completing his undergraduate studies at Stanford University, he obtained his medical degree at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He spent his two years of postgraduate training in general surgery at Barnes Hospital in St Louis and the University of Kansas. He then completed his urology residency at the University of Kansas.
Dr. Leifer has been certified by the American Board of Urology since 1986. He is a member of the American Urological Association, the American Association of Clinical Urologists, the South Central Section of the American Urological Association, and the Metropolitan Medical Society. He is a past president and current member of the Kansas City Urological Society. Dr. Leifer is licensed to practice medicine in both Kansas and Missouri. He has been president of Kansas City Urology Care since its inception in 1999.
Dr. Leifer has had a long-standing interest in diseases of the prostate. He was involved in several research projects at Johns Hopkins. He performed the first potency-sparing radical prostatectomy in Kansas City, a technique he brought from Dr. Walsh at Johns Hopkins. He has participated in many clinical studies as an investigator.
