Drug Shortage Hitting U.S. Healthcare System

Dr. Sam Kuykendall, a Urologist at Kansas City Urology Care, discusses the nationwide problem of drug shortages.  The National Drug Shortage website has listed 265 medicines that are in short supply this year.

The shortage has several causes: manufacturing problems, quality issues and trouble getting new suppliers online when current suppliers have problems. With many drugs there are alternatives but they are not always as effective. According to to Dr. Kukendall, “It’s frustrating not to be able to do everything you can to take care of somebody.”
