KCUC Urologist to Lead National Organization

Mark S. Austenfeld MD, FACS, of Kansas City Urology Care, Assumes Presidency of the AACU

SCHAUMBURG, ILL. (September 28, 2012) — Kansas City urologist Mark S. Austenfeld MD, FACS, assumed the Presidency of the American Association of Clinical Urologists Board of Directors Sept. 23, 2012. In addition to this transition, Richard S. Pelman, MD, and Mark D. Stovsky, MD, MBA, were elected AACU President-elect and State Society Network Chair respectively.

“I am proud to lead this organization at a time where there is a tremendous opportunity to influence legislative and regulatory policies that will impact patient care and the practice of urology for years to come,” Austenfeld remarked. “[Immediate Past President] Dr. Arthur Tarantino served the AACU with incredible dedication and foresight. I look forward to building upon his many successes and initiating new programs to grow the organization.”

Dr. Austenfeld is a private practice urologist associated with Kansas City Urology Care and Saint Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. After receiving his medical degree from the University of Kansas, Dr. Austenfeld completed urologic training at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. He later served as Director of Urologic Oncology at the University of Kansas and is now Associate Clinical Professor at University of Missouri-Kansas City. Dr. Austenfeld is a primary investigator for ongoing clinical research trials and a reviewer for several major peer-reviewed journals. He is an active member of the AACU, as well as the American Urological Association and is Past President of the South Central Section of the AUA.

In addition to electing Drs. Pelman and Stovsky, AACU member approved the nominations of Patrick H. McKenna, MD (Madison, Wisc.); and Eugene Y. Rhee, MD, MBA (San Diego, Calif.), to serve as section representatives on the Board of Directors.

The American Association of Clinical Urologists (AACU) is the only national organization to serve urology with the sole purpose of promoting and preserving the professional autonomy and financial viability of each of its members. AACU's resources are dedicated to inform members of the issues affecting their practice and profession, and then to work directly to influence the resolutions of these issues.
